Fees for publishing in an "Open Choice" Journal

Open Choice gives the option to publish under the subscription model or publish Open Access, which increases the visibility of your research.

A large number of subscription based journals are in the Springer Open Choice program and offer the option to publish your article Open Access. If you want more information and a list of “hybrid journals”, please check Fully open access journals and hybrid journals.

Upon acceptance of an article the corresponding author will receive a link to our Springer Nature author platform where they can sign the Copyright Transfer Statement online and indicate whether they wish to order Open Access and printing of figures in colour. Once that has been completed, the article will be processed and an email with a link to the Springer Nature eProofing tool will be sent to the corresponding author.

  • Publishing Open Access articles involves an open access publication fee (APC) which varies per journal (a full list is available on our Open Access Journals and Books webpage). For APC funding options, please check Funders for Open Access articles and books. You can choose to pay by credit card or to receive an invoice. For more information on payments, please check our APCs Payment Options.

  • The open access publication fee does not replace any other existing journal publication costs, which are billed separately (e.g. surcharges for colour figures in print, oversized articles, etc.). You will find more information on that on the respective journals homepage.
