Configure a proxy to work with Springerlink

Many customers use EZProxy and the setup is publicly available.  We recommend you check out the OCLC Stanza for SpringerLink for the most up to date information.  

How should I configure EZProxy?

SpringerLink recommends using version 6.x or the most recent version of EZproxy along with this SSL Configuration and the following database stanza in both config.txt file and ezproxy.cfg.

Please note that we will be ending support of connections using any version of TLS prior to version 1.2 on 31 May 2018.  If you are using version 6 of EZProxy you should be fine.  If you are using a previous version please contact OCLC for support. We have provided more details here:

Innovative WAM Setup:

The following URLs should be used when configuring WAM

If you are recognized by Springerlink but receive a redirect error when trying to download an article please be sure the following is in your definition table. This is especially true if you are using Innovative's WAM proxy service.


In addition, please check the following settings:


1. Javascript: Check that the proxy is not configured to block javascript, because some elements on our site require javascript to work.


2. Cookie size: Some proxies also block cookies above a certain size, which may cause problems as well. Check that the proxy is not doing this. (See, for example,


3. Encoded URLs: If pdf links are found not to work, be sure the proxy is configured to encode slashes in URLs. In EZProxy, to accept encoded URLs, the customers' starting point URL(s) that point to SpringerLink content should be changed so that the URL includes "?qurl" instead of "?url".
