"Newest First" sorting search results don’t seem to show newest items

On the search results page, when sorting books or chapters by "Newest First," the results may not seem to be in the correct order. This is because date sorting for these types of content has only the copyright year to rely on, and results within the same copyright year are not able to be distinguished.

When sorting search results for journal articles that include both Online First and regular articles, it is possible for articles from future-dated issues to appear as newer than Online First articles that are actually more recent. If the latest article for a journal is an Online First article with today's date, but the journal has an issue out with a future cover date, the articles in the future issue will appear as the newest articles in the search results.
