Due to recent changes in postal regulations for Chile, Peru, and Brazil, it is now required to include the recipient’s Tax ID number on all accounts, packing slips and paperwork when shipping to these countries. Failure to provide this information will result in the non-delivery of packages. To comply with these regulations, Springer Nature needs the individual’s Tax ID number associated with their account. The following information outlines the specific requirements for each country:
Tax ID Requirements for Shipments to Latin American Countries
Due to recent changes in postal regulations, shipments to several Latin American countries now require the recipient’s Tax ID number to be included on the account, packing slips, and all accompanying paperwork. Packages that do not include this information will not be delivered.
To comply with these regulations, Springer Nature requires the appropriate Tax ID to be associated with the recipient’s account. Below is a summary of the specific requirements by country:
Brazil
- Individuals: CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) – 11 digits (e.g., 123.456.789-00)
- Companies: CNPJ (Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica) – Includes a base of 8 digits, a 4-digit branch code, and 2 check digits (e.g., 11.111.111/0001-55)
- Note: A valid Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is required for all recipients.
Chile
- Tax ID: RUT (Rol Único Tributario) – Consists of 8 digits, followed by a dash and a check digit (0–9 or K) The correct format is this: NNNNNNNN-N
- This number must appear on all shipping documentation.
Peru
- Tax ID: RUC (Registro Único del Contribuyente) – 11 digits
- Required for all shipments.
Colombia
- Tax ID: NIT (Número de Identificación Tributaria)
- Must be provided for the consignee on all shipments.
Ecuador
- Tax ID: RUC or Cedula number required for all non-document shipments
- If the consignee does not have a Tax ID, a passport number is required instead.
Mexico
- Tax ID: RFC (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes) or CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población)
- For non-Mexican nationals, acceptable alternatives include a Social Security Number (SSN), another recognized Tax ID, or a Passport Number.
